Red Jules – Feature Interview – Issue 049
Words By José de Sousa
Red Jules is originally from East Yorkshire but lives in Spain now and travels to Ibiza for the season every year.
She runs Facebook groups & a WhatsApp community for people aged 40+: Ibiza Clubbing for 40s+, Ibiza Meetups 40s+, Ibiza Solo Travel 40s+ and hosts weekly meetups in Ibiza, which she runs voluntarily as well as an annual group holiday event at the end of September in collaboration with One More Time Ibiza.
This year she started to host solo travellers holidays for small groups of people and in 2026 is hosting 3 holidays in May & June.
In the last 2 years she has changed many people’s lives by creating new friendships and reintegrating older individuals into the Ibiza nightlife, as well as bringing many older Ibiza virgins here too from all over the world, helping to boost the local economy and tourism in Ibiza with the influx of older travellers.

When have you started to organize meetups to gather people that love Ibiza’s Night Life?
My first group meetup was in May 2023 then September 2023. In 2024 I ran weekly meetups in May – June then Sep-Oct. This year I have run them all the season apart from August which tends to have an influx of young Europeans and is not a popular month for the older clubbers.
What is involved in hosting the meetups that you so beautifully organize?
First I have to decide on the event to go to. I ensure that the event is suitable for older people and the event fee is a reasonable price, so as not to exclude anyone. I often have a free guestlist, which is a bonus. Next I publish the detailed information, date, time, location, ticket information etc on all my socials. I contact the pre clubbing meetup venue to book the seating based on an estimate. This is hard to do, sometimes 10 people may come and other times 30+. I’ve tried asking people to confirm attendance but often people make a last minute decision and just turnup. I ensure everyone is introduced and I speak to them individually. We have drinks for an hour or 2 then taxi share to the chosen event. We meet also to go to boat parties, out for meals and to pool parties.
How did you come up with the idea to create: A group for people that love clubbing in Ibiza and that are 40 +?
In 2023 I decided to return to Ibiza but I was concerned it had changed a lot since I last visited. I searched the Internet and couldn’t find any information on which clubs best suited the older clubbers. I didn’t want to go to a club full of teenagers or stop in a hotel were I couldn’t sleep for the noise. I thought perhaps a lot of people 40+ had come to Ibiza in the 80s 90s 00s and really enjoyed themselves and had thought about going back now they had the time, money and perhaps their children were grown up etc. Like me, they didn’t know where to stay or what clubs they could go to that they would feel comfortable in. I started the Facebook group: Ibiza Clubbing for
40s+ to help me and other people find the answers to these questions and more. I started it in 2023 and now have 106k members, so there has definitely been a lot or interest in this age group!
I have travelled as a solo traveller a lot and even though I enjoyed it I found at times it can be quiet lonely on a night. It’s great when you do find some solo travellers to have a chat to and go for a meal or drink with. I knew a lot of solo travellers came to Ibiza and I thought it would be a good idea to give them the chance to meetup with like minded people to go for meals, drinks, go clubbing, go to pool parties, boat trips etc, together . In Ibiza it’s great to go as a solo traveller but it’s also nice to be part of a group when you choose to be.
Most people probably think that organizing meetups in Ibiza is a fabulous job/activity, and that all is marvellous. I’m sure this also brings a lot of challenges. What are the main challenges you have experienced since you are doing this?
Yes it is a fabulous job as I get to meet some amazing people from all over the world and have become great friends with a lot of them. There are quite a few challenges, transport is one, the taxi situation in July this year was very challenging! Waiting for a taxi in 35C heat with no shade isn’t great! The roads are so busy, traffic jams everywhere, it cant be helped. As I mentioned before reserving the seating in local bars for my meetups. My meetups mainly take place at Rio Ibiza & Flaherty’s Irish Bar and they are both very helpful and accommodating when 40 people turnup and I’ve only booked for 30! Ensuring everyone has a ticket & ID, people often can’t find it on their phone as their Internet is not working! I always advise them to take a screenshot beforehand as a backup.
The weather can be a problem if it rains heavily as my meetups are mostly outside so I have to arrange inside areas at last minute. I don’t hold group meetups at the superclubs due to loosing people, it’s too stressful for everyone inc me and from experience it’s far too challenging and just doesn’t work!
What are you favourite Ibiza Clubs / Venues and why?
I prefer to hold my meetups at the smaller clubs: Rio Ibiza, Pikes Ibiza, 528 Ibiza, Eden, Chinios, Sundara, Plastik & Es Paradis. As I mentioned before I found it impossible to host them at the massive superclubs. What makes my night are the people I am with. You can go to the same club every week, on the same night (which I do) and every night will be different. It’s the people that bring the energy to the clubs.

How has the opening of UNVRS impacted the Ibiza club movement?
Because of its huge capacity it has taken some business from all of the clubs. I have seen the smaller clubs are a lot quieter this year and even the Superclubs have been affected on some nights. I ran my Old Skool Sundays event (house and trance music from the 80s90s00s) at Rio Ibiza this year. When it started in May it was packed but when UNVRS opened in June it definitely had an impact. People tended to come early from 9.30pm, then left to go to UNVRS for Carl Cox. By 2am it was very quiet.
What clubs have you seen more active this year?
Definitely Pikes Ibiza & 528 Ibiza which is located in the Benimussa Hills (it used to be the Zoo project) it just opened this year and has had an amazing successful year. It has firmly established itself as a focal point for some great music, particularly with its unique Saturday parties & Pikes Presents on Tuesdays. These events emphasize a music-first approach in a no-cameras environment, like Pikes Ibiza, channeling the spirit of the early Ibiza culture. The night begins outdoors in a fantastic open aired environment and later transitions to inside the club which is stripped back with no fancy lights or lasers, no VIP culture, just great music to dance to!
Definitely Amnesia for the Kevin and Perry event, which has grown massively this year and the return of Godskitchen to Amnesia. Both events were very popular with my group and hundreds of group members attended them both.
UNVRS has attracted a lot of attention worldwide and with such a huge capacity it’s been a very active club this year!
What place has Pikes in the history of the Ibiza Night Life?
Pikes is one of my favourite places it’s an iconic place with lots of history. Over the last 2 years with the help of my group it has become a very popular venue for the older clubber. They have a no phones policy and put a sticker over your camera. In an age of clubs being full of people not dancing just holding up their phones it’s nice to experience again, a bit of the original spirit of Ibiza, when you went to the clubs just to dance and enjoy the music, rather than just to get some great videos for your socials. I think the younger generation miss out on so much when they concentrate on their phones, instead of dancing, getting lost in the music and the moment. Lots of people had never even heard about Pikes before they joined my group. It’s a popular topic in the posts now and I have a Pikes WhatsApp group with 500+ members in, I also hold weekly meetups to go to Pikes.
What DJ’s you really don’t miss when you are in Ibiza?
I never miss the Kevin and Perry Amnesia night in September, this year with my old skool favourite DJs: Dave Pearce, Lange, Seb Fontaine, Chicane & Paul Oakenfold. Paul Van Dyke, his Shine Ibiza event was at 528 this year instead of Eden and it was an amazing night. I love Armin Van Buuren and got to meet him backstage at Ushuaïa. Tall Paul was amazing this year at Godskitchen Amnesia as well as PVD, Mauro Picotto, Paul Thomas & Fergie. Todd Terry, Armand Van Helden, Camelphat, Ben Helmsley, Claptone, Sonny Fodera, too many to mention!
What makes you return each year?
The people and the energy, there’s no place on earth like Ibiza. You can’t understand it until you experience the uniqueness of the island. People from my group come to Ibiza for the first time in their 40s, 50s and 60s, some solo from the USA and Australia, afterwards they send me a message saying that they had the best holiday and can’t wait to come back. People often book their next holiday as soon as they get home. Ibiza takes you to a special place with the music, it helps you forget all your worries, all the problems with the world and just for a while you live in that carefree moment and feel free, happy & young again!
What do you wish for 2026 and beyond in Ibiza?
I wish that Ibiza, despite the recent changes can still retain some of it’s original authenticity, the spirit, and the magic we all love in 2026 and beyond.
I’m very happy that 528 Ibiza has been so successful this year, their events, in my opinion, embrace the true essence of Ibiza and I look forward to seeing what they have planned for in 2026 and wish them continued success.
I’m currently having my website updated redjules.social to include lots of information for older travellers to Ibiza and a special members section with discounts, personal recommendations and advice. This will be live in 2026, so of course I wish for this to be successful!
