Zone Magazine Issue 017 August 2017
Well Folks, back again with a HUGE HUGE issue! With so much happening in the world of Electronic music, across the world, we endeavour to capture as much as we can for you to feast your ears & eyes on!
In our feature interviews in this issue we talk to cover duo, Son Of 8. Rooted in the post-industrial city of Liverpool, the two elusive friends combined their artistic endeavours and love for music to produce a razor sharp, contemporary sound. The resulting music tips a hat to the classic sounds of Chicago, whilst reinvigorating it with elements of pop, electro, uplifting EDM breakdowns and bottom-heavy, deep house drive.
Next up, Bastian Bux. His debut came with his ‘Stay’ EP on Suara, where four timeless tracks laid the foundations of what Bastian Bux means today: deep and emotional Techno, dark House, and high class Electronica. Such was the success of the debut that, a few months later, he repeated on Coyu’s imprint with ‘Teardrop EP’, ‘Screenshot’, ‘Tresor’ and his recent ‘Oracle’ EP, where his stylistic range extends further, going from futuristic Deep House to Progressive Techno, was remixed by Suara label-boss Coyu.
We talk to The Caulfield Beats, from the UK. Navigating the rare and coveted middle ground that separates live performance from 4-to-the-floor, The Caulfield Beats commit the soul of a DIY garage band to the vision of speaker cone bass. Spontaneity versus repetition, organic versus mechanical, the uncontrolled versus the restrained, this is the sound of a band unafraid to dismantle the idea of what dance music can be.
We catch up with Shane Kinsella, from Ireland, a.k.a Project 8. Renowned as being one of Ireland’s hardest working producers and artists, he’s earned his place in contention for the top and nothing is going to stop him.
We have a chat with Pete Shaker Bones, from the UK, after a gig in Dublin. For those who know and appreciate the finer nuances of dance music the name Pete (Shaker) Bones will evoke warm memories of uplifting dance music filled with love and passion. From the heady days of ‘Ugly Bug’ records and the 90’s dance ‘Summer of Love’ to ‘Red-Ant’ records and todays new generation of clubbers to the biggest clubs in the world playing alongside the who’s who of DJ royalty Pete has been there and seen it all and more ! If we can tease out a few tales from the globe-trotting maestro we are in for a treat.
We talk to two guys who have produced a music film called ‘Raving Iran‘. Ask yourself a question: What would you do for music? Would you risk going to prison or even risk your health or your life for it?
This issue we also have our new section Maintaining your mental health. Here at Zone we are very aware of Mental health and how, as an artist, DJ or performer, weather its a small or large gig, your state of mind is key. I have invited a Pychotherapist to write a regular section on Mental health and well-being.
