[dropcap]I[/dropcap]n our feature interviews in this issue we talk to cover masters of techno, OCTAVE ONE. Octave One needs little introduction. There at the birth of Detroit Techno, their unique sound has lasted over 20 years and brought together an innumerable amount of music fans and clubbers alike. Most well-known for their Ibiza smash hit, ‘Black Water’ with fellow Detroitian chanteuse, Ann Saunderson the band of brothers have recently begun a mammoth 2018 tour to promote their new album, Industry, released in late April on their own 430 West imprint.

We also talk to JOEL MULL from Sweden. Joel starting DJ’ing and producing in 1993, Joel Mull’s career spans over two decades. He has released music on labels worldwide and along with Cari Lekebusch, Robert Leiner, Adam Beyer and Jesper Dahlbäck he counts to the first wave of Swedish techno producer who became known around the world as the “Swedish techno sound”. In the mid 90’s Joel moved to Hamburg and worked as a resident DJ for 3 years at one of the biggest techno clubs in Germany, Unit Club.

” Adam Bayer and I had some projects together in the studio. We just wanted to make our own music and we also had our first release at that time “

We talk to VALIANT KINGS from N.Ireland. The glowing Belfast mans melodious but spell-bounding club music is undoubtedly gaining a rapidly growing fan base performing his highly recognizable brand of house music ranging from deep and moody right through to uplifting peak time monsters. The debut with his partner-in-crime; the uber- talented Lisa Williams “As The Rush Comes” gained HUGE support from the likes of Don Diablo, EDX, Paul Van Dyk, John Gibbons, Andi Durrant, Judge Jules just to name a few! This combined with upcoming shows in Dubai, Germany & Ibiza, and also a fortnightly show for Ibiza White FM, and only formed in early 2016, the future is definitely bright!

” I was too young to go to clubs during “The Troubles”, it’s proven throughout other articles, that one of the great things that the clubbers noticed, that nobody cared about the Neanderthal views of a select few “

Also from N.Ireland, We talk to RICHIE BLACKER. The Belfast-based selector, DJ and producer who lives and breathes the classic acid house, rave and DIY-spirit of his home turf and one of the most significant up-and-coming talents in Ireland’s House & Techno scene. At just eighteen years old he first got his hands on a set of decks, Richie let nothing hold him back – quickly throwing his own packed-out parties in any venue he could get his hands on; from art galleries to warehouses, indoor skateparks and beyond. Growing from strength-to-strength, he’s continually crafted and refined his skills as a local DJ selector and producer.

” I grew up at the tail end of the troubles in Belfast. So I can’t really speak for the 90’s. But from my experience it has been a massive positive for both sides of the community “

We talk to FELIX FX, from Germany. Here we have the first in a series of interviews that have had a huge impact on the clubs in Berlin, and on the scene as a collective. We start this trip off with a DJ and producer who has had a great influence on many, and who was a DJ back in the early 90’s at a little place called WALFISCH! He is still playing today and runs the WALFISCH Revival events. Check out his exclusive DJ mix on out Zone Mixcloud page this issue.

” I have a special relationship with the WALFISCH Club, because I played there in 1991 for the first time in front of an audience “

Also from Germany, we speak to ONTONIC. Between taking piano lessons as a young boy and writing his own songs in a modern studio a lot has changed over the years but his love for electronic music has only been growing stronger. He has been a music enthusiast as long as he can remember and probably a little earlier than that too since his father, also a talented musician has been a big influence in his early musical development.

We chat to JackEL from the USA. Last May Edmonton native, JackEL sold out The Mint and Beauty Bar. He sure knows to make the crowd dance with his eccentric beats. His career started when he was 14 years old and created his Record Label/Artist Collective “FVYDID” the age of 18. His music production ranges from jazz to drum & bass, rooted from house and hip-hop. Now at the age of 21, he has over 4.18 million streams on Spotify and is opening for Cazzette at the Avalon on July 21 in Los Angeles, California.

Also from the USA, we chat to KURA. He is currently one of the most hyped DJ’s and producers worldwide. Signed to the most important worldwide EDM label, Spinnin Records, and with bookings managed by world-renowned, Anna Agency. He’s placed on the 48th position on DJ Mag’s Top100 2016. KURA has under his belt several releases for labels such as Hardwell’s Revealed Recordings, Spinnin Records, Tiesto’s Musical Freedom, Nicky Romero’s Protocol Recordings, Afrojack’s Wall Recordings, and Armin Van Buuren’s Trice/Armada Music, as well as Ultra Music, and Smash The House, among others, and lots more are on the way.

” I think the best advice you can give to anyone with a creative work is to be true. Be true to the music you love, be true to the work ethos, be true to the industry and show your true colours, as what’s needed is original material and not copies “

We chat to ANOR from the UK. Kent-based tech-house outfit Anor has been steadily building a following and making a name for themselves since forming 3 years ago. Both Fraser and Andy have both released as solo artists and as part of a collective, but as Anor, they are making waves. Stepping things up a notch by creating their own Nite Moves imprint, they have released Eps from the likes of Acid Kids, Jacque and OddOneOut.

From Italy, we have LUCA AGNELLI. Tuscany DJ and producer Luca Agnelli is always looking for new targets, more challenges, experimenting with uncommon paths and inventing innovative languages. Eclectic, creative and curious, Luca has a unique style that transmits passion and adrenaline, dreams and emotions, demonstrated through his 2014 DJ Mag Italy cover.

” My musical roots are in house, but then I went deeper and then into techno. I call it personal evolution. I’ve always done what I felt, what I liked and had passion for in the moment, what gives me emotions and good vibrations “
