In our feature interviews in this issue we talk to cover feature JOE STONE. Our Kai Newhouse was able to meet with 90’s house remix phenom, Joe Stone, a.k.a., Maurice Oude Booyink, at the Spinnin’ Records Q-factory. She trekked through rain, mud and far Uber drive, but was finally able to get there. She was soaking wet and breaking a sweat. He’s known for taking old school hits and making them into house grooves of today. His remix called, “The Party” which the 1995 hit by Montell Jordon’s “This is How We Do it” put him on the house music remix radar. Native to Amsterdam, Joe Stone was naturally inclined to music. Starting at a very young age, he was creating his own melodies and after being in a band, learning his craft under another alias, he had eventually caught the eyes and ears of Spinnin’ Records. His sound has made many of his tracks chart on Beatport and continue to gain support and momentum.
We talk to the due from Norway DA TWEEKAS. It was a bit last minute when we got invited to visit the start of the “Tweekalution”. Norway’s iconic DJ-duo Da Tweekaz went on a 3 day bus tour through Germany. First stop would be at the fabled Bootshaus (Cologne). With their first gig being on a Thursday, someone might expect that not many people would be attending since most of them have to work on a Friday. Nothing could be further from the truth. All 3 shows were sold out in advance. A staggering 1600 people attending on a weekday to see their beloved duo.
We speak to the English House man himself SEAMUS HAJI. Mention the name Seamus Haji to anyone within the house and disco scene, and they will know exactly who you are talking about. One of the industry’s most respected and talented DJ’s, he is in demand across the globe, both for his skills behind the decks and in the studio. Fresh from the summer anthem, his reworking of the classic “Boogie 2nite” released on disco powerhouse Glitterbox, he is busy running his numerous labels, working A & R for Defected Records, djing across the the world, and hunkering down in the studio, he managed to make some time to chat to us here at Zone Magazine.
Again from the UK, we speak to rising House DJ and artist ARCHIE B. Being an artist these days is a difficult hustle, so when we heard about one of the UKs leading House jocks was about to release an album, our ears pricked up. Archie B has been ‘in the trenches’ for many years. Based in Oxford, he’s carved out a strong career as a DJ, supporting acts such as Rudimental, Redlight and Gorgon City. Turning his hand to producing a few years ago, he has already amassed a great deal of attention with releases on CR2, Audiowhore, Audio Rehab, Champion and Madtech.
From Belgium we speak to DJ BRAILMONT. Brialmont is a Belgian dj/producer born in 1992 and he layed his hands on the decks the first time at the age of 16. At first, he played at local smaller places and party’s, but it soon got clear that he wanted to go further then that and he got a hold of several residences in Hasselt, such as Aper’eau. In 2015 he released his first EP under his alter ego name “Cartas” on the Greece based label “Erase Records”. Several bigger names such as Kolombo, Wasabi, Sugar Hill supported his music. This got him into playing at bigger venues such as Balaton Sound Festival (HU), Board X (ESP), MoreThanBare (Ibiza) and Radiostation StuBru over the years.
From Spain we talk to LADOX. Passionate about music, radio and technology since childhood. At the age of 15, together with his friend FJ Lamela, he developed a very innovative radio station project that worked for a year and then continued to develop it on the local radio station Radio Mediterráneo, in Cadiz, Spain.
We also have a quick chat with the Founders of NEVERLAND FESTIVALS; Tim Italiaander & Long story short: We had some good luck with previous investments, most notably the cryptocurrency scene. Both our childhood dreams were basicly the same: to throw a music festival. This all came together in the winter of 2017 when the first plans for Neverland got laid-out and what followed was an epic 120 day journey from idea to execution.
Our girl Kai Newhouse also checks out the Producer Dream Team USA! Can you imagine a dream team made of the top Producer/Remixer/DJs all under one roof? Well I always have and I was able to catch the moment at the Amsterdam Dance Event this past October.
