How many record producer / DJs can be found today that have made some of the most respected, quality and upfront house music in the world for 27 years? Growing in the scene with a passion as fresh today as it was at the start? If you’re going to make a list then Chris Scott would have to be on it. His productions and remixes have featured on many of the best, and most revered major and independent labels in the world. Zone magazine have a chat with Chris to find out more….
“When I started making music with electronic equipment there were no courses that I knew of 85 – 92. You really had to learn it yourself. There was no internet “ Lexicon Avenue
We talk to German born FINDIKE. Emrah FINDIK Aka Findike was born in Langen in Germany on 16th April 1977. Now based in Istanbul in Turkey, he started working in the music industry in 2006 as DJ and producer. With over ten years of experience and developing his craft, his main genre is house music but he specialises in deep house, tech house, techno, progressive house and tech. Currently, he has many tracks and mixes in the public domain and he is rapidly gaining popularity and building a solid fan base as a DJ, both in clubland and on the radio and is increasingly in demand as a producer and remixer.
” At early age, expressing moods and feelings on Keyboards and having then years using FLStudio, to learn production, I then went on to Ableton which suits my personal style “ Findike
We go all hard dance and talk to CALLY & SHOCKER. Cally & Shocker are 2 names impossible to ignore when the subject of hard dance is mentioned. While many names have come and gone over the years, they’ve managed to stay at the top of the list as far as UK hard dance acts go for close to 2 decades. Between them they have amassed an incredible number of achievements, which have helped firmly cement their well-deserved position at the forefront of the scene.
” I think pushing UK talent, or up and coming artists in general is so important. I see too many artists struggle for years to get somewhere, then when the few manage to break through, so many of them forget the struggles they had, and forget about everyone else in their position “ Cally & Shocker
From the UK, we speak to rising DJ and artist duo JOE & JENNO. Joe & Jenno are an up and coming Techno duo making an impression on the music scene performing sets that will never be forgotten. Sharing their passion for Techno, Joe & Jenno are known for their loyal following and fan base. The duo have been a dominating figure in their circles, bringing huge crowds to an array of venues and parties, cementing Joe & Jenno as a solid booking for many UK events.
“Our first major mark on the scene was setting up our own event in the local area. As we mentioned the scene had massively died down from the very famous 90’s warehouse raves we thought we had to do something to revive it. This was the creation of Symposium” Joe & Jenno
We speak to Soundgarden master LIAM SIEKER. Born and raised in Melbourne, Liam guest appears at events all around Australia. He has played at establishments all over Australia, including regular gigs at Killing Time, My Aeon and Brown Alley in addition to numerous festivals, such as Babylon Festival, Rabbits Eat Lettuce and Esoteric, to name a few. Liam has also opened and closed the night for popular artists such as Oliver Huntemann, Charlotte De Witte, Waveback, Nanoplex, Ben Coda and more.
” I came into this global scene within the last decade but have followed it from when I was very young. I dived back into the past where I drew a lot of influence from and am a fan of lots of the classics “ Liam Sieker
Also from the UK we touch down with DJ CALI. Multi award nominated DJ Cali, a young lady born in London and lucky enough to have grown up around the music scene her entire life. Cali learnt to mix with vinyl when she was 15 and has been playing out regularly since age 16. She started off with house, garage & trance music, performing across the country as far a field as Ibiza in 2017. Cali has been playing drum and bass for just 2 years. Do not be fooled by her appearance; once Cali gets behind decks she is beauty & the beast all in one, knowing exactly how to peak the energy and deliver the good vibes. After having a storming first year in the dnb circuit, Cali is a ray of light to the scene, only 21 years old and most certainly one to watch for in the future.
“I’m still young at only 21 so I have a lot to learn but my journey so far has certainly given me an abundance of experience. 10 years ago I was learning to play the keyboard, and pestering my dad to let me have a go on his Technics 1200’s. Now i have progressed massively as both a DJ and producer” DJ Cali
We chat to rising Irish DJ/Producer ERIC MOORE. Eric has emerged as an eminent figure in the Irish electronic music scene in recent years and yet remains somewhat enigmatic in his approach. A turntablist with a penchant for high energy and multi-genre performances, the Arcane Records helmer stretches the spectrums of techno with a distinctive and cinematic sound that educates and breathes new life intoelectronic music as well as obliterating any dance floor in comes in contact with. It’s these intense and explosive performances that see him nest at the vanguard of a very strong and dedicated Irish techno scene.
” I had played at local raves and parties a good bit when I was younger, anywhere I could, I would, but my first real taste of attending a bigger production was Creamfields Ireland. I was quiet young, long before I could legally enter a bar or a club “ Eric Moore
Staying with the Irish guys again and we speak to ART OF ALGEBRA. Based in Dublin, David “Jack” Hallinan, know as Art of Algebra has spent the last year building up a steady following in his native Ireland and further afield. Blending together influences of ambient electronica, IDM and trip hop, his self titled debut album was recently released to acclaim from fans and critics alike. We sat down with him to discuss his musical influences, his techniques, and all things in between.
“I think things are pretty dynamic at the moment. If you look at the Irish and European clubbing and festival circuits you can see that people are very open minded and continue to look for something new” Art Of Algebra
And yet again another Irish artist CAMELA. Camela, part of the Absolute Deep collective was quick to get his name out there from only starting on the scene less than 3 years ago. From starting out in Dundalk with the Absolute Deep crew in the infamous macs garden parties to playing in some of Dublin’s clubs such as the south William basement, Turks Head, Tengu, Berlin D2 and some secret parties with the constellation Dublin collective ! Camela also made first time appearances in Superclub Eden (Ibiza), Cosmic Ballroom (Newcastle) and many independent events / Festivals across Ireland which include Enter The Coven, Durt Castle, Fuinneamh, Arcadian Fields and Solstce Festival.
” If I had to put something on my bucket list, it would be to play at all the super clubs in Ibiza. I’ve played in Eden Ibiza which was a great experience but really, I’d love to play clubs like Amnesia, DC10 and Es Paradis “ Camela
